Andrew F. Scott: Interior Lighting Update

This is an update to an earlier post on interior lighting. As before a series of render layers were created in maya as a means of creating render passes for this image composite.
The passes are listed below:
diffuse pass
occlusion pass
masking pass
reflection pass
beauty pass

In Photoshop a series of layers and layer groups were created to isolate and organize the various passes that corresponded to each element of the composition. The masking layer was used to isolate and break down each pass into the individual elements that comprised it.
Specifically:
Windows
Floors
Fist Sculpture
Mobius Sculpture
Background plate

This approach provides a level of control and efficiency over all the elements used to construct an image. You are also able to manipulate the dynamic range of the values within the image without creating HDRI images. The same process could be incorporated into a HDRI workflow but that is a subject for another day.
